French Bulldog-Housebreaking

Question
Dear Ms. Goodness,

I have a french Bulldog about 6 months old.  I have had her for 2 months.  We have a doggie door and she knows where it is.  I take her with me to the office and take her outside every 1 1/2 hours.  She won't go outside but then when we are inside she goes.

It is always by a door.  I have a four year old English bulldog, also.  The older dog is, of course, the dominant dog.  I believe that the 6 month old knows what she is suppose to do outside and has the behavior as a boundary marking behavior.  Which is fine but it does not do anything for my carpeting.  Is there a way she can be consistently taught to go outside and not on the carpet.
thanks

Answer
I'm curious where she spent the first 4 mos. of her life. If she was a kennel dog, house training will be harder than usual. I don't think she's exhibiting territorial behavior at all. She just doesn't get it yet.

If you can put her out with the older dog she should pick up the idea eventually. Dog doors aren't the best solution especially for puppies.  Consistency is the key, as well as positive reinforcement when she gets it right.

My Bulldogs don't usually house train until they are at least 6 mo. old and then they still sleep in a crate.
