Question
I have a question concerning my dog's health. First I would like to give you an overview of his health before I get to my main question. Droopy is a 5 year old cocker spaniel. My dog has a food allergy and a seasonal skin allergy. He is currently eating the Wellness brand of dog food. This brand was recommended by our vet as being a very good brand to switch him on. He currently enjoys his food and has gotten used to it. He's been on Wellness for roughly 2 months. I have seen a big change in terms of his itching and scratching, which is a good sign. However, for the last two days, I've been noticing him suffering from cases of diarrhea. Just this morning, there were 2 cases. After the first case, I noticed some red in his anus. Although there was no blood in his stool. I was wondering if I should be worried or if it was just his stressing of his anal muscles. Usually when he does suffer from diarrhea it is because he went through the garbage or got a hold of human food. We have not seen any signs of either. My brother's cocker spaniel passed away not too long ago and I am scared for my Droopy. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. Thank You.

Answer
Hi Pauline.

The BEST thing for you to do is make an appointment for him to see his vet for an exam. This will ensure that he is not painful in his abdomen, and he just has a bout of colitis going on.  It could be the food, it could be something he got into. There are MANY causes of diarrhea.

Good luck
