Question

Jack
I have a 21 month old Chihuahua-terrier/bichon mix (father bichon, mother chihuahua/rat terrier), my boyfriend and I recently took a trip over the weekend out of town and left Jack with my mother, who always watches him while we are gone, he ate nothing but his dog food over there.  On Sunday evening, we picked him up and brought him home, I filled up his bowls and we went to bed.  Over the next couple of days we noticed by Tuesday the food bowl hadn't been touched.

He isn't eating except when we physically feed him out of our hands, and it's in small amounts but I do believe thats because of his size (roughly 12-13 pounds).  He isn't acting sick at all, he's had stomach issues in the past but they were short-lived and went away with half of a pepcid AC tab that the doctor told us to give him, at that time he kept throwing up all over the place.  He is otherwise acting normal, I've pressed on his belly and there's not sign of guarding or pain.  All other activities are normal...

He eats Eukanuba small breed adult for high metabolisms

He seems to be emotionally tied to me and we've been going through a lot of stress and emotional ups and downs this week.  He isn't alone a whole lot as I work nights and my boyfriend works days, he's on both of our sleep schedules - he sleeps a lot.  When he is left alone, he goes into his kennel until one of us gets home.  At night he sometimes chooses to sleep in there (the door open) but most of the time he sleeps on the pillows by our heads in bed.

He is starting to worry me, but I don't feel that it's a medical emergency warranting a vet visit because he's eating out of our hands...Why isn't he eating??

Answer
Hi - I wish he could talk and tell you what is wrong.....
I would change is diet around and see if this helps - Also, try to give some ball play 1 x per day - get him to chase you or a ball in the house for some exercise:

Here is my plan for your Jack:

Please buy some Innova Evo wet canned food - Place this on top of his dry food.  After an hour, pick up all the food.... Don't leave any of it down.  ( 4-5 hrs later, offer more food - Place it down for an hour and then, pick it up)
Try not to leave the food down all the time.  Put is down and pick it up after a certain time.

You may want to mix your food with some Innova Evo Dry food - Innova Evo is a great food and can be a good mix with your old food.
Do a 50.50 mix of the two foods with a little wet on top.

Next, Give your boy some NuVET Plus - this is excellent and will help him gain his appetite and health.
here is the site- not sold in stores:

You may want to get the NuVET powder rather than the wafers... The powder can be mixed into his food.

Also, you may want to give this boy some canned pumpkin - give 2 teaspoons per day - good calories and fiber.
Make sure you get the pure canned pumpkin.
Only give this for a few days.

I sure hope my suggestions help.
BEST wishes...
Oh, you can buy some salmon oil and place a teaspoon of this mixed into his food per day.
Make sure it is pure salmon oil - liquid bottle.

Best wishes
