Dog - Painful Discharge of Feces

Question
Marie,
My 5 month old golden has recently begun to cry when attempting to discharge his feces.  This normally occurs first thing in the morning - first bowel movement which is very limited.  After the episode he appears to be fine and discharges regularly throughout the day.  I am currently feeding him Nature's Variety kibble and wonder if this could be a food allergy.  However, for the past day I've stopped giving kibble and have started feeding organic vegetable soup chicken broth in hopes of cleansing his system.  Do you have any suggestions as to what might be going on and whether I should call my vet and have him checked out?  Is this a symptom of bloat?  His stomach does not feel distended.

Answer
Carolyn:  Let's get your golden boy on some fiber.  Can you get the Metamucil Wafer cookies?  You can find them at Walmart.  Get the ones that are Apple Cin Flavored.
If you can't find this, then buy some Canned Pumpkin - Pure canned pumpkin ...no sugar added.

Give only one of the above choices  - 2 wafers per day of the Metamucil cookie OR 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin.
You can mix into the dry dog food.
Do this every day.  ( again, only one of the choices I listed)

Next, give this boy some Salmon Oil - Pure Alaska Salmon Oil - 1 tablespoon per day - mixed into his food.

Last - NuVET Plus is a wonderful Supplement and Digestive Aide:
Give just one NuVET wafer treat per day - Not sold in stores...
Buy from the Manufacturer and save 45% over the Cost from the VET office.

I hope your Golden Boy does well with my suggestions!
Make sure he has plenty of cold water available.  Put some ice cubes into his water dish.

Thanks and Good Luck
