Red sore on my cat

Cat Sore   Hi.  I recently noticed a red open sore on my cat.  It is circular.  There is no damage to the hair surrounding the sore and my cat does not seem to be in pain from it. Can you help?  I have attached a picture.  Any advice helps, thanks!

From the photo, I cannot be specific, but it looks red and inflammed.  I would first try a steroid creme on it and if that does not have an effect, to remove it.  Then a pathologist would be able to tell what it is.  Many skin tumors in cats are malignant, so I would not leave this on the cat very long if it does not respond to steroid treatment.
