Question
spot on back
spot on back
my dog is a puggle pom mix she is black and weighs about 8 lb she is up to date on her shots..she has little spots on her stomached and back by her tail it looks like dirt but won't come off with washing she also has had quiet a bit of hair loss on her but and bellie. when bathing her today I found a area on her back that is open I think maybe from scratching her back...we have had a problem with fleas this summer we have used everything including frontline and Sergeant skip flea shampoo and a very expensive room spray but have not been able to get rid of the fleas...I was wondering if you could give me any advice of how to get rid of the fleas. also if you have any idears what the spots might be and what causes the hair loss.. also what to put on the open area on her back to help heal it..

thank you for your time
sincerely

Answer
Hi Nicole,
well that isn't the back of your dog but her belly from what I can see!! She has the typical appearance of a dog with massive flea problems and the resultant spots, sores and discolorations in her skin from chewing and scratching.

Go to the vet and get some Ovitrol Plus flea spray for her, some Sentinel flea pills to give her from now on and some Ovitrol house spray for your rugs and floors.

That alone will get rid of the flea infestation and the Sentinel is for her monthly heartworm prevention and it will sterilize all the fleas that do happen to bite her. In a few weeks your dog and house will be rid of fleas IF you use all of these products as intended on the labels.

I have used them all for over 16 years and I don't have a flea around, even outside on my acreage.
The hair loss is also from the fleas and her chewing.

So get to your vets tomorrow and get these products. Only the Sentinel is a prescription but the vets carry the Ovitrol products.
