Question
my dog was a stray; his age is approximately 13 years....he's mostly siberian huskie..in the last
few months, one of his testicles is, according to the vet,has become 3 timee larger than normal..the vet says it is likely caused by a tumor.....vet is first going to look at blood work and chest x-ray for signs of spreading cancer before deciding on surgery....my specific
question is, are there any estimated percentages or odds available that tell what likelihood is that the tumor is benign or cancerous?

Answer
Hi Richard.  Unfortunately, if the tumor is in the testicle, it is by 98% probably cancerous. This is not a death sentence though.  Because of modern day veterinary medicine, the tumor can easily and quickly be removed if the cancer has not spread.  Since the tumor is in the testicle, and it has only been prominently present for a few months and the testicle is consistantly getting larger, it would be very common for the cancer to be simply in the testicle.  It would be more likely for the cancer to be in this area than to have spread.  Before panicing, I would definitely wait for the bloodwork and chest x-ray results.  At this point in time, I would be very optomistic that this can be successfully and easily removed.
Please keep me posted as to how he does.
I'll be thinking of you and your boy.
