Dog breathing

Question
Hello, my dog (10) was fine but later in the day I got home and let him outside. After a few minutes I called for him and he didn't come and I used treats and it still took him a while to come. He gets distracted easily so I wasn't worried but I was surprised. Later though I noticed he was moving slower than usual and wasn't breathing normal but slightly varied breathes. Should I be that concerned or just wait it out? It has only been a little bit since that happened but I didn't want to take any risks.

Thanks

Answer
Hard to say Matt. Did the dog come running back when you called him? He might have been farther out.

If his breathing is still erratic tomorrow I suggest you contact your vet because a 10 year old dog might be having some issues, such as heart or lung problems. If he isn't on Heartworm prevention he might have heartworms, which can affect his heart and lungs, as well as his liver.

You really need to get him in to see the vet tomorrow if he is still breathing differently. I wouldn't take any chances.
