training a dog where to poop

Question
We recently moved to a new house with a much larger grass area in our back yard than we had before.  It seems that Ally (our 5 year old lab/dalmation mix) likes to space her "droppings" out over pretty much the entire grassy part of the yard.  We have a new baby and when she's old enough to play in the yard we'd prefer that most of the yard be "poop free".  Is there a way to train Ally to poop in a more confined part of the yard with a spray scent or something?

Answer
Hi Jeff!

I would recommend getting a fence or a gate around half of the yard for your dog to do his stuff and the other half can be for you daughter. Make sure you do not get and electrical fence because that is abuse and is inhumane to your dog. Electrical fences are very dangerous for both your daughter and you dog.

Another thing to do is just clean up all the poop after he does his buisness.

Also, you can talk to your vet about how to train your dog to do his buisness in certain spots.

I hope this is helpful! Sending wagging tails your way!
