Question
Hi,
I have a Shiz Szu male, one year old. For a couple of months now Gromit comes into our bedroom every night at least once, sometimes twice at about 3am. He just puts his head in the door turns around and goes back to the kitchen to sleep. It is so strange. Do you have any idea why a dog would do that? It's almost like he is checking up to make sure we are there. Why would he do such a thing?

Answer
Hi there!  I have a Shih Tzu too!  Mine is about 3 years old now...a wonderful little dog who we love to pieces!
Shih Tzu dogs and other dogs alike are extremely loyal to their owners and truly love their owners.  They have sleep schedules like us and perhaps your little guy simply wakes up at 3am and just wants to check out what you are doing. He sees that you're still sleeping, so he figures, "ah...guess I"ll go back to bed then!"
My shih tzu sleeps in bed with us.  Very early in the morning, he climbs on me and stares at me (hehe)...just wanting to see if we're getting up yet or not. When he realizes we're not budging, he cuddles back down and goes to sleep.  This is definitely normal behavior.
Hope this helps!
