Question
i have looked everywhere to find the answer to this question so i would really like it if you could give me the answer. How far into my guinea pigs pregnancy should i seperate her from the boar? One website said when shes 6 weeks into her pregnancy but i am not sure please get back to me as soon as possible!

Answer
Hey,

The boar should be removed from the Sow once she is pregnant.  It's easier for the female Guinea Pig to have a good pregnancy without the Boar around. I say this because once pregnant the Sow will try to fight off any further attention from the Boar and it's easier for her when the Boar isnt in the same cage as she is. You dont have to seperate them until about 4 weeks into the pregnancy, but it would be safer for you to do it when she becomes preganant.

Do you have other female Guinea Pigs? It is very safe to put her in with other females and for other females to be around for the pregnancy. Quite often the female Guinea Pigs will help the mother with the birth, cleaning up the babies, and helping....quite beautiful to watch if you have other female Guinea Pigs to help her during her pregnancy.

Also do not leave the Boar with the female after she is pregnant because he will mate with her as soon as the babies are born....feeding one litter while pregnant with another will be damanding on the poor female.

If you have any more questions...please email me.
