Clipping dogs nails

Question
I have the hardest time clipping my dog's nails - she hates it.  She's a 5 yr old, 75 lb pit bull that is very strong and I always fear injuring her or myself because of her movements to avoid the nail clipping.  I've never cut the quick but she's horrified of me clipping them.  Any suggestions on how/where or what to use to clip the nails?  I've tried both types of nail clippers sold at pet stores and nothing seems to work well.  I realize a vet can clip them but I'd like to learn how to do it on my own a bit better.

Answer
Hi Tim!

Your vet's team should be happy to SHOW you how to trim the nails properly. Thats what they are there for. Its hard to explain it over paper without any diagrams.   But what you can do to be safe is just clip the hooked tips off the nail.  You can see the quick in the white nails. If they are black nails, just clip the tip off.

Good Luck!
