taking in a stray cat

Question
Hi! There is a stray cat (I think it's a girl, but haven't gotten a good enough look to say for sure!) who hangs around the area and often comes to our door to be fed. She is rather friendly when she's hungry and can be petted while she is eating. Any other time, though she is rather skittish and scares relatively easily. We would like to take her in, but don't know exactly how to go about it. I'm not sure of the best way to catch her and where to take her once she's been caught. Also, I already have a 3 year old male cat. My cat is an indoor-only cat, but they seem to get along well, at least through the screen door! I don't want the stray to come in the house before being checked by a vet so she doesn't transmit anything to our cat. Can you please give me as much advice as possible on how I should go about getting her in and keeping them both safe?! She normally comes around in the late evening, so at the time when it would be easiest to cath her a lot of vets aren't open. Also, we're moving in about 3 weeks, so we don't have too much time to try to lure her in the house. Please help!  THANK YOU!

Answer
HI there!

ask your shelter for a have a heart trap.  catch her that way. see your vet in the am and have a felv/fiv test done, deworming, spay/neuter if possible and vaccinate the cat :)

then you can bring her into a spare room in the house and do a gradual introduction. :)
