Question
MY EIGHT YEAR OLD LAB RAN INTO THE GARDEN, GRABBED A BABY BIRD AND ATE IT!  WILL THIS HURT HIS STOMACH?

Answer
Hi Paula!  This is typical behavior for a dog...especially labs, I know, my parents have a gorgeous yellow lab.  It really shouldn't harm him in any way.  The only thing I would be concerned of at this point would be a simple upset tummy for a day, or an intestinal blockage.  It should pass through his digestive system without a problem, but here are some warning signs that there may be a problem:
Straining during defecation
Vomiting
Not eating
Decreased or increased drinking
Bloody diarrhea
Lethargy
You may see some diarrhea if he gets an upset stomache.  It may be beneficial to feed him a very bland diet for a day or two.  Boiled chicken mixed with rice tends to be very helpful.  Boiled chicken (boneless, skinless,no spices and fully cooked) is very easy on the digestive tract and rice will work as a firming agent toward stool.
I hope this helps and please keep me posted!
Sending tons of kisses to that labby nose!
