Anal glands in dogs

Question
Is there anything I could give to my dog in order to improve the smell from her anal glands?  She has a constant, strong fish smell coming from her tail area.

Answer
If you are smelling your dogs glands then she has an impaction or they are too full and she needs them expressed. You should never be able to smell them that way.

You can have the vet teach you how to express them yourself. As a last resort, if she continues to have a lot of problems with them, you can have them removed but it is not recommended because it can cause incontinence if not done right.

So call the vet and have them express them and show you how to do it.
