Shiz Szu behavior

Hi,
  I have a Shiz Szu male, one year old.  For a couple of months now Gromit comes into our bedroom every night at least once, sometimes twice.  He just puts his head in the door turns around and goes back to the kitchen to sleep.  It is so strange.  Do you have any idea why a dog would do that?  It's almost like he is checking up to make sure we are there.  Why would he do such a thing?

He may be doing just that...checkin on you to make sure you are ok.  Dogs are very smart and can do amazing things....some dogs have even saved people from burning buildings, woken their owners when the smoke alarm goes off, told the mom that there was something wrong with the child, etc.
