Dog is weird after the Vet visit

Question
Hello Jana,

I am very concerned about our dog. This morning I discovered that my 2 year old black lab mix has ticks (I removed 2-3 of them) and decided to take him to the Vet (that he goes to all the time) since I was working my spouse took him to the Vet. He was treated there (and was nervous during his treatment) after coming home he acts strange; he won't leave my side (he invades my personal space and that makes me anxious) he usually follows me around the house, but not like that (its like he's obsessed) and when I let him know that he needs to leave me alone,he's tail goes between his legs and he looks tense. (again he usually doesn't react like that)

What happened to him and how can I bring him back to normal.

Your answer is appreciated!

-Daria

Answer
Well since I wasn't there I don't know what happened to him Daria. What does your husband say? Wasn't he there with the dog?

Maybe they sprayed him with some flea and tick killer and it scared him. Did they put a Preventic collar on him? If they did I would suggest removing it and putting it a plastic bag. Wash your hands after taking it off.

Sometimes these collars can make a dog have side effects such as nervousness, anxiety etc. Usually they make them lethargic but everyone reacts differently.

So it's really hard to say what happened, but I would call the vet if I were you or ask your husband what they treated him with.

I would say that an aspirin usually settles them down but don't give him one if he was treated with something at the vets.

So call the answering service of the vets and have them page the vet so you can ask him what was used on him.

That is the best thing I can tell you. Have some patience with him- he is a young dog and is looking for you for comfort. Dogs have no concept of 'personal space' except with another dog.

Give him some attention then have him lay down somewhere and stay. Call the vet.
