Cats Heartbreak

Question
My cat is 17-years old.  I've had her since she was a kitten.  In September, I moved out of my parent's house.  I left my cat behind b/c I felt that she was too old to move even though she was in really good health.  Since then, her health has rapidly declined and she has recently quit eating.  I feel extremely guilty for leaving her behind and feel as though she would still be healthy if I hadn't deserted her.  Is it possible that she is dying from a broken heart?  And if so, is there anything I can do to rectify the situation and get her healthy again?

Answer
Hi Rachel!
Please don't feel guilty.  This is not your fault in anyway.  You made the best decision not to remove her at her elderly age to a different home.  The stress of a move would have been far greater.
As for her health now...at 17 years of age, anything could be ailing her.  I would definitely recommend a vet visit for a geriatric blood profile. This will show how all her organs are functioning and her cell counts.  If there is a problem, it will show on the blood work and be treated accordingly.  Hill's Science Diet A/D (from your vet's office) is very, very palatable and oftenly entices an anorexic animal to eat.  Baby food is also an appetite stimulator.
I would definitely say that a vet visit is in order.  I am sure that you will find the answer as to what is ailing her.
Please keep me posted and I wish I could be of more help!
Hang in there and many get well kisses to your baby girl!
