Question
Hi Debbie,
2 weeks ago I went to the grocery store, then two McDonalds and then to my brothers house to pick up his children . While I was waiting for his son to come home from school I witness my cat crawling out from underneath my car. She was unharmed in the incident. Upon further inspection of the vehicle I found 4 kittens up in there. 1 had died. Now three weeks later the kittens eyes a matted shut. I boiled salt water then let it cool to clean their eyes but the next day they are matted shut again. Is there something else that I could do to fix this problem?

thanks for your time and advice
Chris

Answer
What a frightening experience.  I have heard of this happening before and have always feared it happening to me or someone I know.  I am glad the cats were unharmed, but it sounds like the kittens have an upper respiratory infection.  If your cat has been vaccinated, it is unlikely it is anything worse, but if not, it could be one of a few viral diseases common to outdoor cats not protected by vaccinations.  I would take them to the Vet. to begin antibiotics as soon as possible.  If they respond positively, that's great.  If not, you should test Mom for FELV/FIV to start with and if negative, vaccinate her.  Hope all turns out well.
