Question
My catdying 2 day old kitten Lilly went into labor and had one kitten, only one. I think she went into premature labor, she still feels like she has other kittens inside of her. The kitten was seemingly okay but then today ( the second day) she started getting weak and more quiet. I tried to feed her kitten formula, she seemed like she drank some of it but not enough to really fill her up it seems. The momma cat doesn't seem to have any milk cause she might of went into premature labor. We also tried to rub the kittens genitalia to get it to go to the bathroom but that didn't work I don't think the momma cat is doing it. Please tell me what I am doing wrong/what should I do, I don't have money for a vet.

Answer
Hi Heidi,
Some kittens don't do well no matter what. It all depends on the age of the mom, her health, in other words if she is leukemia free, vaccinated against viruses, etc. If the mom cat has other kittens inside of her that she hasn't had after two days then she needs to see a vet as soon as possible or she will die from these kittens dying inside of her.

She might have a virus that makes her milk toxic to the kittens as well. There is no way to know unless you have a vet check her out.

Keep bottle feeding the baby and she might rally yet. Feed her at least every two-three hours.

The mother would still have milk if she delivered a kitten unless she herself was stressed or sick.
They both need to see a vet. Money is not an excuse for responsible medical care of your pets. If you own them, they rely on YOU to take care of them.
