Female labrador Retriver first heat

My female was 8 months on Sept 2 and I am concerned because I cannot have her spayed until Sept 27.  I want to have this done before her first heat.  Can you explain the signs to me very specifically what the vaginal area will look like?  also will any pinkish area begin to protrude?  At what age do Labs usually go into their first heat?  She is a purebred and a very fine lineage.

Hi Karen!  A dog will go into their first heat between 6 and 9 months of age.  Some signs would be a slightly swollen vulva, whimpering and restlessness and you may also notice some drops of blood from her vaginal area. Some dogs show no definite signs of going into heat.
