Question
My 9year old bitch died of pyometra last year. The doctor could not diagnose the problem. But your site helped me.Thanks for the same.
My friend's dobermann bitch who is 7 years old was not allowed to mate. She has not been spayed. She had hugelumps in her breast during false pregnancy and was operated twice to remove the lumps. But the dog looks sick, has lost weight and appetite, has constant secretion from the eyes, drinks lot of water, her serum389 count is 6.6.She has also become inactive. The doctor(the ones in our city are not good.I have experienced this.) says she is okay. But she is also shivering for the past 1 week. The nose is dry. What is the problem. Is she heading for kidney failure,Is it breast cancer or pyometra. She does not have any secretion from the vagina. Please suggest some remedy. He has tried 4 doctors already. But they have failed to cure her.Should she be spayed?.He lump was removed for the second time last month. The lump is in the form of knots. Please help to save her life. The dog looks at me for help.Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ashwin!

All dogs that are not going to be bred should be spayed ASAP.

In the case of this poor dog now, with the weight loss, increase of water consumption ect.. DOES indicate a problem.

You should ask for a referal to see a specialist especially if the lumps on the dog are metastatic (cancerous) or go to an pet emergency room to see if they can help. Have a complete blood cell count as well as a full blood chemistry done on the dog at that time.

If she does not look right, something is up.

If she were my dog, I'd keep finding a vet until I was satisfied.

Hope that helps!
