Hair loss on cats legs

Question
Hilary,

Do you know what may cause our cat to lose hair on it's legs.  We thought it may be dry skin, but not so sure about that now.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Robert.  I would definitely take your cat to your veterinarian.  Hairloss is a key symptom in Feline Hyperthyroidism.  It's very common in older cats and is controlled with medication.
If your cat is between 1 and 3 years of age, your cat may have Feline Eosinophelic Granuloma Complex.  This is a skin condition that shows up within this age group.  One of the most common places is the legs.  This is treated with monthly or bi-monthly injections of Depo-Medrol, which is a steroid.
Your veterinarian will be able to diagnose whatever may be ailing your cat.  Please let me know how it goes!
