Question
I have two cats and they are both the same age, 1 year and 2 months. I woke up this morning to find one of my cat's stool's very bloody, with a strong odour. I think i know which one it is however i was wandering would could cause my cat too poop blood?

Answer
Usually this is caused by cheap, low quality, grocery store brand foods or from that and changing their food suddenly. The lower quality foods will irritate their colon which causes the vessels to become friable and then they pass blood when they have a bowel movement.

I had the same issues with 5 cats until I switched them all to Science Diet (Science Plan in the UK) and the bloody, smelly, runny stools stopped in two days. I have never fed anything but Science Diet (for 30 yrs)and my cats live longer, are never ill and never have bloody stool.

They are also very soft and shiny. If you do switch your cats over to it, make sure you transition them over a 7 day period. This will prevent any gastric upsets.
