QuestionIf this question is out of line, I apologize and if you don't answer, I will understand. I have been doing a lot of research into vaccinations. I have a 4 mo old GSD. I have read many pros and just as many cons if not more, regarding vaccinating dogs. My pup has already had all his puppy vaccines, so there is not much I can do about that. I am reading much info that boosters are not necessary, and possibly detrimental to animals. Do you have an opinion you are willing to share? Thank you. Also, if you do answer, may I fwd your reply to my GSD group? Thank you,---Claudio
AnswerCertain virus vaccines do confer good long term immunity, like distemper and hepatitis vaccine, but there are other vaccines that need to be given more often, like kennel cough and lepto vaccines. Some people like doing antibody titers, but they do not have much correlation to immunity. Some dogs with no measurable immunity survive challenge to disease causing viruses. There are no good studies showing that annual vaccines are detrimental to a dog's health.
