Question -
I have a Male rotty, about 6 yrs old, I live on a farm so he comes inside and stays outside usually wherever I'm at.

I've noticed he seems to get this oily feeling to his coat between baths, quite often actually.

Is this something Rotty's do or is he finding something to "roll" in?

no other skin symptoms, ie; itching, or anything.
Answer -
If he is not having any symptoms of skin disease and if there is no odor, then having an oily layer on the skin is good.

But there is an odor,

Answer
If there is an odor, then the bacteria on the skin are digesting the oils imparting a musty smell.  To treat that, you have to use a degreasing dog shampoo twice weekly for seborrhea and use an antibiotic to keep the bacteria numbers low.  Check with your vet.
