Question

FUR MISSING
I just adopted a pit bull from the shelter today and I have a scheduled vet appointment but it is not for about a week so I was hoping to get a little information if possible.  She has small patches  around her upper neck and down her upper back, with a little bit down her neck. They are heavy by her neck starting where she would wear a collar with the fur completely missing but as they get down her back they get less with spotting with some fur.  She doesn't seem to have them on her face, belly or chest.  She does not seem like it bothers her and she is not scratching or anything.  Before we adopted her we had the vet in the shelter look at her to make sure it wasn't something contagious because I have other dogs.  She said it wasn't but she was briefly seen, and did not receive a skin scraping.  She said it was most likely an allergy.  At first I thought it was ringworm, but I really wouldn't know.  I am just concerned because I have three other dogs in my home and I just don't want it to be a contagious.  I have attached a picture, but it is not really good because it is from my phone.  Any in site would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advanced.

Answer
There are many tings that can cause this hair loss.  You have mentioned mange, ringworm, and allergy.  These are all possible.  Also consider that there may be a yeast infection or a bacterial infection.  Your vet will be able to rule out many of these conditions.
