Allergic reaction to my boyfriends cat

Question
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my question. I have lived with cats my whole life and have never had an allergic reaction to them. However, whenever my boyfrind's cat touches me, I develop a rash on my skin immediately on the spot where we made contact. He goes through cycles where he pulls out his own fur and I am thinking that he must have something on his skin or fur that makes both him and me itchy. Is it possible to be allergic to only some cats? I don't think his symptoms speak of mange, but I just can't figure out what the problem may be. I appreciate any insight.

Answer
There may be a parasite on the cat that is getting on you.  Have the cat treated for skin parasites by the vet even if you don't see them.  See if that helps.  Most people are allergic to the dandruff that cats produce as their skin cells slough off.  There are some sprays that you can put on the cat to prevent the cells from sloughing.
