Cats broken nose?

18 15:03:00

Question
My cat was running up our exterior stairs today and somehow missed a step and went face first into the next concrete stair ahead of her and flipped up on her back.  I didn't actually see it, but my boyfriend said she hit it very hard.  Now, hours later, she seems okay, but her nose is compltely swollen and appears to be missing some of the fur. She's weezing slighlty when she breathes.  I'm not sure if her nose is broken and if it is broken, is there anything to do for a cat with a broken nose?  I don't want to pass it off as nothing and not take her to the vet if she should be getting checked out, but I know there's not much to do for humans with broken noses - is it the same for cats?  Is there something that could be wrong with her that's worse than a broken nose?  There is no blood and it appears to be the only thing swollen on her face.  Thank you!

Answer
Cat's do not like to breathe through their mouths at all. So a cat with a swollen nose will struggle to breathe and could even panic and pass out, but that is rare.

She should be seen tomorrow if nothing else for a shot of cortisone to reduce the swelling so she can breathe better.

You cannot give them any over the counter drug for this- they are very dangerous for cats. If her nose is not swollen tomorrow then you could probably skip it. But it is very hard for a cat like I said.

If she starts to struggle to breathe tonight, you should call an ER vet and get some advice from them what to do.
