QuestionMy cat was put down two weeks ago and I have just received an itemised bill. There appear to be some inclusions on it that don't appear to have any relevance to the procedure. I was hoping that you could tell me what these drugs are used for:
Clamoxyl Rtu inj 100ml
Dexadreson 2mg/ml 50ml
I think that these are the ones used to put my cat down with. However, these also appear and I'm sceptical about these:
Aqupharm 11
I/V fluids - set up
standard profile + gluc
At the time it was suggested that my cat would go onto a drip and stay at the vets for observation, but he didn't receive this treatment.
I hope that you would be able to tell me which drugs were used to put my cat to sleep and which items are spurious.
thank you
Russell Allen
AnswerI would highly recommend that you call your vet and ask for an explanation as we do not use these medication brand-names where I work. As far as putting him to sleep, most vet hospitals will not list the drug, which is pentobarbital, but usually just write in Euthanasia.
Clamoxyl Rtu inj 100ml --We use an oral antibiotic called CLAVAMOX and this is probably the injectable form.
Dexadreson 2mg/ml 50ml -- This is a steroid which is used to reduce inflammation or sometimes to stimulate appetite in cats.
Aqupharm 11 -- I believe this is a type of IV fluid, but I am not 100% certain as we do not use this at our hospital.
I/V fluids - set up -- This would be the charge for the actual IV catheter, administration set and IV Fluids.
standard profile + gluc -- This is blood testing.
