Question
After I checked your website i called my vet. She said that after checking the report that if he does not improve in three days bring him in. THe medication he is on is Torbutol 1mg.

When I touch his back legs now, he kicks a  and he just stretched his toes of the leg that seemed so tender. His tail is stiff but he bends it slightly. This seems all good to me. But he just wont get up. He did try earlier and he meowed alot and growled. I tried to help him- he would not put weight on his back legs and meowed in pain. So, I just tried to set him back down perfeclty again.

That is when I went looking for help to make him more comfortable; or if i could do anything like use an ice pack to help him heal.

Thank you for your time
Tara

It is thurday 5/6 9am and Wednesday 5/5 at 4am my cat showed up appearing to have been hit by a car. I took him to the emergenty vet. They did x rays of his backend as that was where his pain was focused. The x-rays showed that he has nothing broken. He is urinating so his bladder is ok. However, it is very diffucult for him to take the pain of assuming the potty posision. He has eaten two small cans of ProPlan catfood. And I have been able to convince him to drink. This morning his appetite is there but much less. He has not passed his meals yet. He seemed to try, as he layed in the letterbox trying to muser up the stregth to take the pain. Then he did not go and layed back down for a rest. Then after a while he climed out.

I am concerned about him being able to pass his food. The emergency vet proscribed some pain medication and to keep him confined. Keeping him confined has not been a challenge because he doesnt seem to want to move. Touching him in his tender area brings growls of protest and pain. Needless to say all of this is breaking my heart to watch.

The emergency vet was very expensive and finacially I am tapped, and this is my best friend and I am torn with greif. I am desperatly seeking any advice you can give me to help ease my cat Sugar's healing time. What should I do to help him pass his meals? How long should if take?
Should I take him back to the vet over what you've heard here? I am hoping that the emergency vet is correct and Sugar just needs lots of rest to heal the soft tissue damage. Are there things I should look for?

Thank you for you service and time.

Hi Tara,

did you take him to your regular vet yet? They would want to see him as a follow up and continue the care if needed.

what pain meds was your cat put on??

Answer
ONLY torbutrol?  Thats a pretty POOR pain med if you ask me.

A hit by car cat needs something like Fentanyl patch or Buprinex and or Metacam on board. If your vet feels that your cat is not in alot of pain, go elsewhere! Pain management is SO important in pets and makes a huge difference.
