Major head sores

Question
My parents labrador (1.5 yrs old) is struggling through some really big, bad lesions that have popped up all over his face & head.  I think he must be very uncomfortable because he's become uncharacteristically lethargic.  This happened once last summer, then went away, but has returned with a vengeance.  Their vet said "hot spots" then after they persisted he said allergies.  I feel horrible for the poor guy (the dog, not the vet).  Do you have any recommendations or insight into what they can do to give him some relief?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Labs are very prone to allergies. If it is seasonal, then it is likely allergic in origin.  Your vet can prescribe steroids to prevent the skin from over reacting and can prescribe antibiotics to help if the skin as also infected.  The lesions need to be shaved so that there is no hair surrounding the lesion and they need to be washed daily to prevent their spread.
