Cat eating its hair

Question
My male cat is biting into its hair, pulling out clumps of it and eating it.  I have combed and brushed his coat and still it continues.  You should know that I had two cats up until February--the mother of my male and him of course.  The mother died and he has been alone since.  I'm thinking perhaps it's a way of mourning.  He does cry a lot.  Is this normal or is there something I can do to correct this behavior.

Answer
Your right your cat may be mourning the loss.  If the behavior didn't start until then i'm sure thats what it is.  You could also go to your local pet store and get some vitamins for your cat because it may be a lack of vitamins in his diet.  Wait a while a try getting a new cat that may help, since he feels lonely
