Dogs jaundiced eyes.

Question
I have a 70-80 lb overweight mutt.  I have her on a diet (Iams Lamb & Rice dry food).  I just noticed today that the whites of her eyes are very yellowish red.  I don't know how long they have been this way as I just noticed them today.  They look jaundiced.  Do you know what would cause this, or is this a normal thing?  I live in Florida and the temperatures have been ranging in the 90's and the dog lives outdoors.  She is kept in a large fenced backyard, and sleeps on a enclosed back porch with a large fan in the summer and heat in the winter.  She has all her shots and shares a home with two other dogs.

Answer
Hi Bobby!

Your dog needs to be evaluated by your vet.

Jaundice generally is not a disease; rather it is a symptom of a number of canine illnesses involving the liver and bile production.

It can be potentially serious, so you should not put off taking your dog to the doctor.

I hope this has been helpful and I wish you the best of luck! Please keep me posted and give all your doggies millions of kisses for me!Sending wagging tails your way!
