QuestionOur 10.5 year old/male/Border Collie mix named Bear is having surgery today to remove stones from his bladder. He is in fair to good health normally, and were wondering what complications could occur after the surgery and what other options (such as change in diet) we should consider should the condition re-occur.
Answerthere are usually no complications, the bladder can be a pretty forgiving organ. BUT there can be the follwing(though rare!):
bladder leakage into the abdomen
suture reactions
pain
usually the diet change helps VERY much. What happened is that your dogs urine was either too basic or acidic and it caused crystals to form then clump to stones.
