Question

Back wound
Hi, I have a year and a half year old cat, I don't have much money to spend and my cat seems to be getting some pretty nasty looking scabs on her back. They started out as a few small scabs but over the past week and a half have become about dime size (not shape). I am worried about this. I took a look at her back tonight and one of the scabs is open. It looks painful. Her hair is thinning out in the scab area as well. It seems to be concentrated between her shoulder blades. The small scabs seemed to arrive about a month after removing her flee collar when it seemed the fleas had gone away. Should I get her another flea collar or do I need to take her to the clinic? She is not spayed and I do not think she is up to date with all her shots. I got her when she was about nine months old from a friend. I don't think it's a flea problem only because when she had fleas I could see them and she was scratching all the time. The only way I noticed this problem was by stroking her.

Answer
This looks like a condition called miliary dermatitis in cats, which is an allergy.  THer is a shot called DepoMedrol that may help this cat.  If you want to get some chlorpheniramine tablets from your pharmacy and give 2 mg twice daily, that may also help.
