Question
There is a strat cat living under the house next to me and I'm almost positive she is pregnant. She will come around looking to be fed and will let me pet her but I can't check her belly or nipples and I can not get her to a vet. She is trim but has a deffinate rounding. If she is pregnant and gives birth there are going to be kittens around, I would like to know when and what I can do for both mother and kittens before and after birth. Thank you.

Answer
If you can't get to the mother, then there is not much you can do.  I would put some kitten food out for her, since it has extra calcium and protein, which she will need if she is pregnant.  When the kittens are born, make sure they do not get fleas because that will make them very anemic.  You will probably scare off the mother when you go near the kittens, so you can retrieve the kittens.  At 3 weeks of age they should be checked for worms and dewormed if necessary. Also at 3 weeks you can start feeding them softened kitten food. We start kitten shots at 9 weeks, so you may be able to find homes for them before that.
