Question

Cats stomach
Hello,
Id like some help with a feral kitten i took in recently. I saw it for a few days walking around crying constantly and nobody took it in so i decided it was time somebody did. The kitten constantly ran away from me when i tryed to catch it even though id been feeding it a few days. I only have previous experience with other animals, dogs mostly and smaller animals, birds, rabbits, and so on. Im hoping on some help with this kitten, ive never raised a cat as im allergic but this one is really in need of help before it freezes to death.
I managed to catch this cat, it didnt scratch but cryed and cryed. Im not sure of the age as i dont know much of cats so i will attach a picture.
Now for the problem, ever since i took this cat in a few days ago its stomach has appeared bloated and this cat just never stops eating? I feed it mainly fish and boiled rice,( i live in china alot of kittens would eat that here). It will eat and eat and usually leave a little and play or go to sleep. Im concerned of its bloated stomach, as its the cat has a boney figure with a bloated stomach im not sure of this, i thought of worms but the cat is eating fine and its poo is also fine. Its a playful cat but sometimes gets quite sleepy and will walk sleepyly back to its bed but doesnt cry or show signs of pain. I can pick it up and it doesnt cry even when i touch around the stomach etc no signs its in pain. So i really am not sure. There is vets here where i live. Im an english teacher in china, and the vet care isnt great, i have some worming medcine prepared but im really not sure what to be doing. Just hoping for your opinion on this one. And feral cats in general if you have time. Please help me

Answer
Well bless you for taking her in Joanne. She is really gorgeous. The most common cause of bloat like this is worms. Cats are born with round worms and since it is very doubtful that her mom got any care she got a good load of them from her mom through her milk. She needs some round worm medicine but make sure it is safe for cats. The gentlest and most commonly used in countries other than the USA is piperazine but now we use Praziquantel, which is a broad-spectrum wormer.
Here is an article on roundworms in cats:

You should get some worm medicine for her from the vet. The other thing she might have but she looks a bit healthy for is FIP. FIP is a fatal infection that is from a virus and they can get it at birth or from another cat. Usually the only symptom is a bloated belly and a boney back. The belly fills with fluid and there is no cure for it. It stands for Feline Infectious Peritonitis. It is not harmful or contagious to humans but it is to other cats.

She would need to be tested for that at the vets.
Rather than spell out doomsday for her, get her to the vets and have her tested and get some worm medicine while you are there. She is obviously playing and having some fun so she is happy with you.

Cats in China may eat fish and rice but it's a terrible diet for cats and is very unbalanced. If you can get to a place that sells cat food anything is better than what she is eating. Science Diet is the best that you can feed her and you can order it online but it is sold worldwide.

So get her wormed and checked for FIP if the worm medicine doesn't seem to work or help. One thing at a time. Then get her vaccinated if you can but first get her on a good, balanced diet. Iams, Science Diet, even Purina is better than fish and rice....
I hope this helps some. Please let me know how she is doing in a week or after her worming.
