Question
My questions is rather simple...
I'd like some advice/suggestions on how I may go about in searching for
the right doctor or a good doctor for my dog, Princessa (a German
Shepherd/Huskey Mix) without offending the doctors (vets.)?
The reason why I'm asking is because I'm changing doctors as soon as
possible because the doctor my dog had before is really no good.
He doesnt seem to care for my dog and I've noticed it on several
ocassions. Although he is within my range financially, I know my dog needs
better attention, and not second guessings.
The doc. came recommended and the first time I took my dog to him it was
very different than the rest of the times, now he wont even touch or feel
her, he'll just look at her and tell me 'X' thing is wrong with her and
prescribe meds., (he may be correct b/c I do believe she does have
arthritis or hip dysphlexia but it's not the way to go about it). He's
just too impersonal now and my dog is due her vaccines and I'm so anxious
to find her a new doctor who will be more considerate and caring. My dog's
very first doctor was from another city I lived in.
I went through the yellow pages for local clinics but what step do I take
next? I dont have any more recommendations and I honestly can't go to each
one personally to meet with the doctors. I really dont know what to do but
I'm hoping you can help me figure it out with some great ideas.
I really appreciate your time and help. I eagerly await your reply. Thanks
a lot and many blessings.

Answer
The best way for you to know the reputation of a particular vet is to ask your friends and neighbors who they recommend and why. Ask the dog groomers and any trainers that may be listed in the phone book.

Since there is an orthopedic problem in your dog, you can also call vet clinics to find out if a particular doctor has an interest in orthopedics or likes treating large dogs.

Many times a particular vet and a client/owner have a chemistry.  Sometimes personalities clash. So in the end, you may have to try a few vets based on recommendations to find one that you like.
