3-footed cat problem

Question
hi
i have a cat that was born with only 3 feet. Any time we let it outside, we always kept an eye on it, however, one day it got out of sight and we couldnt find it for a few hours. It then came back covered in blood from its leg with no foot, and it was in severe pain. We took it to the vets, they put it on a course of antibiotics and now that course is done with no effect whatsoever, and the cat is still in pain. It looks like the bone is coming out through the stump on the leg with the missing foot. the vet now tell us that it needs neutered first before even looking at the leg. I cant help feeling the vet is simply trying to squeeze money from us.
I was hoping if you could tell me if the cat will need an operation? if so what type etc... or would a course of drugs simply heal it up?
thanks for your time, i appreciate your help

Answer
Hi Paddy!

I have a cat with 3 legs too with a simliar situation that needed to get done.

See another vet. You ARE entitled to a second opinion. NO the cat does not need to be neutered to take care of this, but yes, get him neuterd at the same time so he is only under anesthesia once.  Your cat also needs some pain meds, that is ONLY RX'd FROM YOUR VET! Do not use anything from your medicine cabinet.

The best thing to do is have the rest of the leg amputated.

Good Luck!
