cat cant expel her furball

Question
My cat cannot expel a furball. She keeps hacking but with no result. It has gotten to the point where she has stopped grooming herself and I am noticing increased clear drainage from her eye. She is an indoor-outdoor cat. I am afraid she will develope an infection if she doesn't get this hairball up. Are there any home remedies for this?

Answer
There are hairball remedies such as Laxatone or Laxastat that you can give twice a daily for a few days.  You can also try feeding olive oil, canned pumpkin and papaya tablets.  If the hairball doesn't resolve then I would take her to the vet for an x-ray in case there is something else going on.
