Cat, feline leukemia

Question
Hello, previous days ago I found out my cat might be suffering from feline leukemia. He started to lose weight, vomit, isn't as active as he used to be, doesn't take care of himself (licking himself/coat). He is less than a year old and doesn't have his shots, of leukemia prevention(or any shots). I would just like to ask if taking care of a cat who has feline leukemia would be expensive? Plus maybe if you know around how much it would take to do the check up(s), blood tests, shots, etc.?

Answer
First of all, there really isn't any treatment for leukemia. It is a fatal disease. You can keep your cat comfortable until it gets really bad and he needs to be put down humanely.

I can't tell you what a test will cost, because they vary from vet to vet,  but you should have him tested so that you know that is what he has for sure. Don't leave this to chance or guessing.

But honestly Genesis, it sounds like he is pretty close to the end anyway from what you are describing.

It is very common in cats under one year of age and usually they get it that young from being born with it, or they get it through their mother's milk. It is extremely contagious to other cats. It can be spread by oral contact such as grooming, drinking from the same bowls or water puddles, fighting, bite wounds and from mating.

But I would have him tested first of all to know what he really has. Most vet charge between $25 and up for a leukemia test. Call your vet and ask.
