Yeast in ears

Question
My two year old poodle has a problem with yeast in his ears it makes his ears smell really bad and he scratches at them all the time. My vet recomended and I have tried otomax when needed and use ear wash when I bath him and neither of these thigs seem to help.

Answer
Yeast in the ears is usually associated with allergies. This can be pollen and mold allergies or it can be an allergy to foods.  If the ear is waxy, otomax will not work.  I recommend an ear cleaner called MAlacetic Otic (see www.dermapet.com)to treat the yeast infection in addition to treatment for allergic skin disease.
