Question
My aunt's dog is very ill and they have run every test possible and nothing is wrong but his electrolytes are very low and they have him on an iv since yesterday and they are still low. This dog is only 3 years old and a very tiny dog,any suggestions?

Answer
I would say that they are on the right track, but they need to find out WHY his electrolytes are so low. Usually vomiting is what starts this or even dehydration from diarrhea.

Little dogs tend to be low in blood sugar sometimes and that can cause an imbalance as well. I say stick to the regime at hand and make sure you ask them about his blood sugars.

Also have the vet put into writing what he thinks it could be so you can give this to your aunt. When a beloved pet is ill it is very hard to remember anything said at the vets once you get home.

I hope he makes a quick recovery.
