Question
Ok I have had dogs all my life but this stumps me. I have a 4 month old beagle basset mix yesterday out of the blue he becomes lethargic and had labored breathing, his neck is swollen no fever no diarhia and no vomitting But to the touch it felt like he had air or fluid trapped between his skin and muscle it actually made a sound. later that evening he had nasal discharge. We did not think he would make it through the night. Well he did and he is a much happier dog this morning. However he still has that air or fluid thing going on........ what do you think I was curiose could it be heart related?

Answer
GET HIM TO THE VET!   This crackly sound you are describing sounds like SQ emphysema and usually occurs when there is a puncture in the trachea (windpipe).  I would be concerned that he may have ingested something he shouldn't have.  And if he has a nasal discharge on top of it, he should probably be put on some antibiotics.
