Hamster skin problem

Question
Hello,
My daughter has had a teddy bear hamster for about five months. We have recently noticed a bald spot on her tummy above each leg. She has been scratching some and the spots look very dry and a little scabby. She is fine everywhere else and shows no signs of illness. We have been using white carefresh bedding. I was thinking if it was mites we would see other areas of baldness. What could be causing this? Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Miranda,
I'm sorry but I don't do hamster questions. I know next to nothing about them and that is why I stated in my profile that I can't answer these questions.

Heather is the hamster expert and I usually defer to her but we do have a vet in here that does dermatology, I just don't know if he does hamsters either. His name is Dr. Gotthelf. Here is his link:

If not, then maybe Heather can answer this for you.

Sorry I am not of much help!! My advice would be to see a vet of course but that's why I am deferring you to the above.
