Shih Tzu shaking

Question

Carmen
last night my 2 yr old Shih Tzu was sleeping on the bed with my husband, I picked her up and moved her so I could get into bed, she then jumped up, went up on his pillow and wouldn't settle down, ever since she won't stop shaking, hasn't eaten or gone the bathroom, she seems to calm down a bit if I snuggle her on my lap and stroke her, but then when I try to move her, she almost gets angry and wimpers (scaring me).  Any suggestions on what the cause may be and what we can do to help her?

Answer
This is not unusual for a Shih tzu to behave this way but she may have pinched a nerve or something when she was moved.
This is really something a vet should look at if it continues for a day more.
We usually have our clients give the dog a tiny piece of buffered aspirin (or baby aspirin) and that seems to help a lot.
Do not use Tylenol or ibuprofen.
If all you have is regular aspirin then give her one quarter of one.
Of course the local noise-makers from New Years may have frightened her also.
