Question
Hi, I've been taking care of a 10 week kitten since she was about 3-3 1/2 weeks..She always had a somewhat of a potbelly, but as time went on her belly has became more and more bloated. She eats, plays and goes to potty fine. A vet gave her a dewormer about 3 weeks ago and amoxcilin, but still nochange. She spent all day today at the vet taking xrays, blood work, and another dewormer, but still didn't find out what it could be. He said he thinks the next step is a cat scan, but he says at the very least it will be $800, sadly I really can't afford it...I'm still deciding on if I can. He says it could be the liver, but he doesnt know. What do you think could be the problem? She's too sweet of a cat and im afraid she will die. Hope you can help!

Answer
If your vet can't find the problem I am not sure I can give you much hope. I would think, however, that an xray will certainly show the size of the liver if it was taken correctly.
I think a cat-scan is a bit of a stretch at this point.
Maybe he needs to try a different wormer. The only other thing I can suggest is has he tested her for FIP and for leukemia?
Unfortunately a pot belly is a real tell-tale symptom of FIP, which is feline infectious peritonitis.
He really needs to test her for that before he does anything else.
If she is negative- look for a vet that can do an ultrasound on her. That would be more telling for liver size at a cheaper cost than a cat-scan.
Good luck and please let me know what you find out.
