Female German Shepherd coming in season frequently

My registered GS dog was born May 28, 2008. We eventually would like to breed her but not yet. We were told that she would come into season about every 6 months,likely fall and spring but for the first time probably not until fall of 2009.

Her first season was in February '09, when she was 8 1/2 months old. Her next time was five months later in July, at 13 1/2 months and then started again this week, just four months after the last time.

She had her yearly check-up and vaccinations two weeks ago and was fine. Is it normal for her to come into heat this often?

Are there birth control pills for dogs?

You should have your dog evaluated by a veterinarian to determine why she is cycling so often.  

You should take your dog back to the vet to determine if she is cycling or if there are other reasons for the bloody discharge.


There are no FDA approved birth control pills for dogs.
