feeding adult dogs

Question
I have 2 adult dogs age 2. One is what they call a Carolina Dog and is primarily an outside dog. The other is a spitz mix and my buddy inside (I can't get out often).

The Carolina Dog is about 60 pounds. I feed him twice a day. I give him approxamitely 2 cups of Purina One dry dog food a day.

The Spitz Mix is a little over 49pounds. I feed him the same as the other dog but he has no set feeding times. He measures about 23" at the shoulders from the floor. He measures about 28" from the top of his head to the base of his tail.

They get very little people food, and a few small dog biscuits daily.

My concern is that I may be feeding one or both too much. What would you reccommend?
thank you.
Joan

Answer
Hi Joan,
I would recommend feeding what the Purina One folks suggest that is on the back of the bag. You can feed on the low end of the range. Like if it says (50-60lb dog ) feed closer to the 50lb range. and for the Spitx mix if it says ( 40-50lb dog ) feed closer to 40lb range. Stick with the low end. Exercise is also an important part of good health, just like with people. Especially for you indoor doggie. You can even see if Purina One has a low fat or lite dry food. This way you can feed them the same amout but the food has less calories in it.
And remember the little bit of people food and few doggie biscuits add up if you are giving this to them everyday (smile). Take care and good luck to you and your doggies.
